About Shady Shores

Having grown out of a fishing camp built in the 1920s containing only ten wood-shingle cabins, Shady Shores is now a town of about 1,500 residents located on the northern shores of Lake Dallas, a part of Lake Lewisville. The town was incorporated in 1960 in order to avoid being annexed as part of Denton. Up until the year 2000, the city didn’t collect taxes but rather paid for road repairs and police and fire protection from building permit fees, franchise fees, and pancake suppers as well as donations from residents.
